Family Portrait 2

So I stayed up late and did the linework for the family portrait haha

I know there are some problems - like my inability to do good line quality *fail*. So I'll have to see if I can work on that some more before I start coloring. Kir's proportions are wonky too I think....I'm playing with things I normally don't draw - kids and pregnant ladies hahaha. AND I'm trying to figure out character design while I'm at it! What a mess! :)

I'm sure I'll hate it in the morning, but for now, this will have to do <3

Family Portrait

I've been having an awesome creative streak for the last couple of days and have taken the opportunity to draw! YAY! Anywho, Aviris has also been on the mind and now that the wedding and honeymoon are over....I feel like I really have no excuse not to work on it :)

Apparently I'm interested in the dynamics of NiKita's family...because I started sketching out this family portrait. It was originally just going to be Luciano...and then I added in NiKita for father / daughter time...but THEN I thought it would be really interesting to see Kir as a cute little kid he was instead of the insane psycho king. Then Nadya got in there because I was like "Oh man, if Kir is that age then nadya is probably pregnant with Anya!".......and then Raul was thrown in because he's a friend of the family that is actually betrothed to NiKita.....

WHOOPS. OVERZEALOUS DRAWING.

Here are the first 2 of the progress shots - showing the sketching process:

Disney Ladies 1-10

Well...Been wanting to do this for a while and, even though I have 10 thousand other things I should be doing, I managed to get the first 10 of these ladies out. Hoping to get the rest and color all (let's not get our hopes up). As they get colored, I'll upload them separately...but for now, here's a little sample.

All these girls are (c) Disney

New Character: Folkvar & Raul Re-Design

A new face in the Aviris universe! This here is Folkvar - the prince of the Northern Kingdom of Hrodland. He and Jai (who also has not be introduced here yet) are sort of fall into the "white knight" category. Anyway, he doesn't have the best home life and throughout the story sort of maybe kinda develops a thing for our leading lady ;) Only problem is - where does this leave Cirino? :o

Right now, I'm just trying to figure Folkvar's design out, but I think this works for now. May throw on some colors later :)

And here is the first sketch of the re-design for Raul (who was previously named Neeko). I don't really like it, but it was nice just to give him a go haha

Character Re-designs

Hey All!

Wow I'm just arting it up aren't I? :D And I wanna draw some more! Anywho, after doing the piece of Luciano and Nadya, I wanted to give Cirino and NiKita a go with their re-designs. These aren't 100% polished...but I'm certainly getting closer! YAY!

King & Queen

This is the latest project I've been working on for funsies. 3 Progress shots and the final :)

Rey Luciano and his Queen, Nadya. The rulers of the Southern Kingdom of Ruhkshan before the rise of Rey Kir.  They are NiKita's parents.

I've never drawn a snow leopard before...or someone wearing a headdress...so this was exciting! haha

Note: No, their proportions are not actual. They are exaggerated (along with anatomy). This piece was actually inspired by a Yoshitaka Amano piece (only mine is nowhere near as pretty haha). I'd put a link to it, but I can't find it on Google right now  Whoops!

This is done in watercolor & colored pencils with a few dashes of salt and minimal photoshop to boost the contrast. Characters & the story of Aviris (c) JMiera

Virgo sketch

I've had this done for a few days...but just now got to scanning it. It's not exactly what I had in mind for it, so I may redo it in the future to match the feel of the Taurus sketch more. I'm just sort of trying to figure out the overall style or mood of the series...so it may take a little bit :)

Either way, here is Virgo, the month of August.
She sports two domesticated animals (along with some of their features) and a wrap of Primula flowers.

Taurus sketch

For a long while, I've been wanting to do a zodiac series....At one time, I had drawn all 12 of them out and even started painting them! But...it was a new technique and it wasn't working the way I wanted...the project was put away, forgotten, and then scrapped. Randomly today...I decided to sketch one out again...I'd like to continue and eventually take my hand drawn zodiacs into Photoshop for color....then maybe make a calendar available at a later time :)

First on the list: Taurus - who is the month of April.
This girl features bison qualities and a wheat laurel on her head.

Drawn in pencil in my sketchbook.

In other news: THE OSCARS ARE TONIGHT WOOOO!!

Pachisi

My roommates recently required the board game Parcheesi (which is an adaption of the Royal Game of India: Pachisi). In some versions, the pawns are in the shapes of animals (which I prefer). These animals are as follows: The Bull, Tiger, Camel, and Elephant. Each of these animals has a specific color and in India, has a very special meaning. This inspired me to a do a small series showcasing these animals and just exploring a little Indian spirituality. Along with inspiration from the game, I also used traditional henna designs to pull in some more Indian flavor. These are my end-of-2012 shebang hehe

Each of the originals is 6x6'' and done in watercolor and La Kaligrafica Italian inks:

Bull - green - represents "Spirituality"

Camel - yellow - represents "Love"

Elephant - blue - represents "Luck"

Tiger - red - represents "Courage"

I also made them represent each of the houses of a standard card deck....mainly because each of the symbols coincides with what each animal represents (I.E. clovers are lucky, and the heart is the symbol of love, ect)
