Pachisi

My roommates recently required the board game Parcheesi (which is an adaption of the Royal Game of India: Pachisi). In some versions, the pawns are in the shapes of animals (which I prefer). These animals are as follows: The Bull, Tiger, Camel, and Elephant. Each of these animals has a specific color and in India, has a very special meaning. This inspired me to a do a small series showcasing these animals and just exploring a little Indian spirituality. Along with inspiration from the game, I also used traditional henna designs to pull in some more Indian flavor. These are my end-of-2012 shebang hehe

Each of the originals is 6x6'' and done in watercolor and La Kaligrafica Italian inks:

Bull - green - represents "Spirituality"

Camel - yellow - represents "Love"

Elephant - blue - represents "Luck"

Tiger - red - represents "Courage"

I also made them represent each of the houses of a standard card deck....mainly because each of the symbols coincides with what each animal represents (I.E. clovers are lucky, and the heart is the symbol of love, ect)

Well...Konig got the better of me haha.

I went ahead and starting painting him (you can see the line work and color studies in my two previous posts) and just didn't stop :) I didn't really have a plan all the way thought out when I started painting...so it's no surprise that by the end I ran into quite a bit of trouble...

But we made it through and this is the finished result - with no digital touch up other than an exposure tweak to bold the colors back up after scanning. The other "Klimt Dog" is my character Aristotle....he's in the early stages of painting, and I hope to have him uploaded as well soon :)

A painting and some lines

These have been sitting around in my basement for a while...finally got to scanning them haha. I worked on the lines for the Snape piece! Probably going to go digital on it. I also finished my Phantom of the opera painting! I didn't really have a plan for it...I just kinda went for it lol Seems I like impressionism :)

Coyote in Beige

I finished the Coyote Puppies and Coyote & Fawns pieces :) I also tweaked the original pencil work for Traditional Yote. All three of these pieces will be available as prints at my school's art sale next weekend :D

yote inks

I finished the inks for the coyote pieces last week but just got up to cleaning them a little bit for upload :) Final step is color! I'm also thinking of making myself a new banner....one that includes my new hook logo :3

The pencil work for the new coyote pieces are done!

 

From here, they will be inked with waterproof india ink and then colored :) I originally wanted to do the color in watercolor (like the other coyote pieces), but I may do them digitally depending :) Maybe both?

I hope to have prints of these available for sale at the Art Sale at my school in April.

I also started reworking "Siblings2" (I'm so original with titles).  I'm really trying to renoodle the designs for Duilio and Cirino - especially with Duilio's head. We'll see if I can get finished lines for this anytime soon heh

This show was a super influence on my young, impressionable, pre-teen mind once upon a time :) I'm super excited to see more of it in the future. Hopefully, eventually, I can see it :D

Coyote Pups & Fawns progress

Here's the latest progress on two of my coyote pieces. These both have to do with the Native American legend about Coyote and the Fawns. In the story, Coyote becomes entranced by the spots that a deer's fawns have. Wanting his own children to have spots, Coyote asks the Deer how she got the spots on her children.

The deer then explains that in order for Coyote to get spots on his children, he needs to trap them in a cave, set it on fire, and let the sparks hit them. The sparks of the fire will then give them spots.

Needless to say...that's not how it turned out D:>

In my version, Coyote's pups will survive, but have black spots rather than white (because they were burned). These pieces will be done in india ink and watercolor on 6ply bristol (not much different from my previous coyote work)

Traditional/Contemporary Yotes & Friends

sorry it's been so long since I've posted guys...I've only been keeping my wordpress and deviantart up to date (which also hasn't been an active thing...it's summer and I've done nothing haha). Anyway, I never uploaded these finished pieces so I thought I'd share :) They're done in watercolor and ink.

These are the other 2 coyote paintings I have. They are the story of how Coyote Stole Fire and about Coyote and Eternal Death. They're done in watercolor (with some salt) and are about 10x10in ENJOY! :)

More Coyote!

I have two more paintings that are like those in my previous coyote post, however, I haven’t scanned them yet haha. HOWEVER, I HAVE scanned these. These will be done in ink and watercolor on 3ply hot plate bristol board. It’s my first time working this detailed and with ink on this paper haha. But it’s been working out really great so far and i’m super excited :D

Originals are about 10.5×4.5in….and I do not own Wile E. Coyote hehe :)

Bluejay, eagle, raven, fox, rabbit, and hummingbird – Each of these characters can be found in the Native American myths/legends about Coyote. However, I’m thinking of also adding a raccoon for the heck of it haha. These spot illustrations are about 3x4in each.

This series was done primarily for the fun of it. They aren’t based on specific legends/myths like my other 4. Enjoy :D

Coyote Series

Wow it's been a while since I'm uploaded here....oops. I've been really bad at uploading everywhere though...been up and down with life but I suppose I could let you guys see what I've been working on:

Been doing a series in my intermiediate watercolor class based on native american legends about The Trickster, Coyote.  These are the first two in the series (there will be at least 6 pieces). One of these is about how coyote threw the stars into the sky and the other is how he dressed as a woman and married a chief's son so that he and his friends could survive a winter.
